2006 Kawasaki Ninja 650R
by Parveen Kaler
So, this is the reason I’m finally selling my car. I picked up a Ninja 650R. I was able to get an absurdly great deal on it because I picked it up from a coworker. He bought himself a Triumph Sprint-ST and decided to sell the 650R after putting less than 5000km on it.
I’ve been on vacation for the last week and a half. My days have consisted of waking up, going to the gym, and then riding the rest of the day.
Yesterday, Scott and myself headed off on a ride to Harrison Hot Springs. It was a pretty fun ride. We took Lougheed Highway out there. There were just enough cars for us to ride at the pace we wanted to and be able to enjoy passing them.
We got out there and had burgers at the pub in town. I’m not quite sure why every second dude in Harrison has a mullet. I’m not sure if this is a phenomenon local to Harrison or if the mullet is making a comeback. For all of our sakes, I hope it is the former.
It was 8pm when we finished eating and it was getting dark, so we decided to take the freeway back. The crosswinds were crazy and there were a lot of semi’s on the freeway. I don’t know about Scott, but I was getting thrown around like a rag doll.
And then Scott had the misfortune of running out of gas.
We pulled over onto the shoulder in the dark of the night. Scott flipped on the reserve and we were good to go. We got off the freeway at the next exit to gas up. The next exit unfortunately was Chilliwack.
I’ve you’ve driven passed Chilliwack, you probably have had the distinct displeasure of experiencing the stank. The stank has to be much worse when you’re in an open air environment like a motorcycle.
I stopped at my sister’s place in PoCo before heading home. There was a trace of pungent odour in the air. The dog was humping a plush toy, so I figured it was her. Nope. It was still me. And I had been riding at 140 km/h.
How the hell do you get the Chilliwack stank out if you stay there for any length of time?
Anyway, here are some pictures of the bike that I took earlier this week when I rode up to Cypress.

Uhhh… I think it’s called a shower, dude. And maybe laundry?
Hey, just searching the Internet for Kawasaki Ninja 650, was surprised to find one locally (I live in Burnaby).
I’ve got the same bike you do: Black 2006 650R, I rode out to Harrison, group ride like you, and Cypress a few times–wicked ride, but I often get schooled by the I4s, and this about the only time and place they get a chance to use all the power their bikes have!
I know a couple of other 650R riders–we’ve done some group rides together.
This bike has just the right balance of maneuverability and comfort. Not a power-monger’s beast like a ZX-10 or FZ1 or whatever, but it’s got some snort when you need it. I love mine, best bike I’ve ever owned!
I was searching the internet for ninja 650R too. I saw your site as i was trying to filter only canadian websites. i own ’07 ninja 650R (RED) . I am from Alberta. My bike got only 700KM on it, waiting to complete 1000 KM then i can ride to work. As, here under 100KM speed limit every one goes 120KM and as i was instructed not to ride faster then 90KM or 4000 RPM till complete 100KM . Another Ninja 650R lover from Fort mcmurray Alberta .
