Teaching iPhone Game Design at BCIT
by Parveen Kaler
I will be teaching an iPhone Game Design course at BCIT this fall. The class starts on September 13th. I’m told there are still a few spots available.
Here is the course description:
This course focuses on developing games for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. Emphasis will be placed on issues that are unique to mobile game development. Hands on experience with Objective-C and the Cocoa Multi-Touch toolkit will be gained. Core topics will include: graphics programming with OpenGL ES, sound programming with OpenAL, location-awareness, and usability on a touch screen device. Students will build a full iPhone game in a team setting. Students will fill roles that exist in actual game development teams in industry. This will include Production, Design, Art, and Engineering. Project management and content creation in a team setting will be emphasised.

Hi,
I read the article in The Georgia Straight and I’d like to know more about this course. I saw on the BCIT website in the course outline that is cancelled. Is that true? What knowledge do I need to have to atend this course?
Hi lonel,
I am no longer teaching the course. I just couldn’t fit it into my schedule. I was flying in and out of Vancouver a few times over the semester. I’m guessing BCIT was not able to find anyone else able to teach the course.
I can’t speak for the course today. However, when I taught the course the student needed a good understanding of at least one programming language: C, C++, C#, Java, or Python.
that’s a shame…I just read the article in Georgia Straight as well…i hope they will offer the class again in the near future
